Our Journey: A Timeline of Growth
In 1963, Mr. Lule Ndibalekera's vision to unite farmers began. This idea grew into our cooperative, officially registered in 1973 to empower our members.

1963-1972
The Vision
Our story begins in 1963 with a visionary farmer, Mr. Lule Ndibalekera. He conceived a powerful idea: to unite local farmers to pool their resources, share knowledge, and work together for a more prosperous future. He shared this vision with six of his friends, and together, they embarked on a journey to turn this idea into a reality. In the years that followed, this small group worked tirelessly to expand their membership, acquire land, and build a foundation for the cooperative to come.
1973
Founding of Cooperative
After 5 years of dedicated effort, the Kimwani Dairy Farmers' Cooperative Society (KDFCS) was officially established and formally registered on May 7th, 1973. With the issuance of a Certificate of Registration number 2890, KDFCS began its official journey with an initial membership of fifty-four (54) dedicated farmers.

1973 – 1981
Performing profitably
In the period 1973 – 1981 the Cooperative was performing profitably with over 150 Friesian cows, 350 local breed cows, a functional dairy farm with dairy supported infrastructure, crop plantations for coffee, maize, bananas and cassava.
1981-1986
Outbreak of the civil war
During the outbreak of the civil war in the year 1981-1986, all the foregoing developments and establishments on the Cooperative land were destroyed, people displaced, assets looted and loss of life of its members within the top, middle and lower management levels
